The Huskers mixed rushing and passing as their football team topped Rockford 22-13 Friday night in a road game win.
The team went into half-time trailing 7-6. With steady gains on the ground and in the air the Huskers took over the game.
"We tweaked a few things and went a little more to our running quarterback game," said head coach Luke Mitchell. "Defensively we also played well and slowed their running game."
Alex Lange directed the team downfield rushing for 20 yards. Jake Ethan covered 59 yards and scored a touchdown. Both of them had success putting the ball in the air. Lange threw for 85 yards and a touchdown and Ethen threw for 44 yards and a touchdown.
"They were giving us looks on early downs that let us pass," said Mitchell.
Holdingford's receivers took full advantage of those chances. Tyson Patrick, six receptions one for a touchdown, and 60 yards; and Blake Steiger's two catches covered 30 yards, one for a touchdown.
They weren't the only ones moving the ball. Gage Ylinen had over 20 yards in receptions and Nolan Heinen 30 yards.
Besides slowing the run, Holdingford also had two interceptions in the game and they held the Rockets to just six second half points. Holdingford is now 2-4 on the year. Friday night they hosts the passing attack of Melrose. Melrose is coming off of a 28-18 win over Maple Lake. In the past few years it has been a good rivalry.
