The Husker boys' field unit copped some top spots as their track team finished second out of eight schools Thursday, May 3 at the John Reimer Classic Invitational.
The girls' team, with a strong showing in the hurdle races, jumping events and middle distances, finished fourth.
Nicholas Hellmann claimed first in the long and triple jumps events, and Evan DeMorett was second in the triple jump and third in both the 110 and 300 hurdles. In the 110 hurdles he, Hellmann, sixth and Jacob Langerud, seventh, helped the Huskers have three in the top 10. They also had three in the top 10 in the shot put as Adam Ripplinger, first; Christian Willoughby, third; and Alex Ruprecht, sixth all threw well.
DeMorett wasn't the only runner to finish well. Lucas Ryan continued as a dominant 800 runner taking first place and Jared Thell was third in the same race. In the 3,200 Jeremiah Christensen claimed fourth while fifths were earned by Jacob Fischer in the 200 and Stuart Hawn in the 400. When the Huskers combined their talents they really took off. The 4x100 and 4x800 relays earned first and the 4x400 was second.
In the girls' meet Jordyn Patrick brought the only first place finish winning the 300 hurdles. The team did have other top five finishes in a various events. Ashley Kobernusz was runner-up in both the shot and discus competitions. Allison Skwira raced to a fourth place finish in the 800, and both the 4x100 and 4x800 relays finished in third place.
In the jumping events Ari Schmidt earned fifth in the jump and Taylor Koopmeiners pole vaulted into fifth place.
